Our PAC2PAC system creates new PET packaging from the Swiss plastic collection bag.
Today, most plastic packaging ends up in incineration plants – but it doesn’t have to be this way! As a long-standing manufacturer of packaging solutions, we – BACHMANN Group –
asked ourselves: how can we create the perfect recycling loop for PET packaging? The result is our PAC2PAC system, which allows us to transform used plastic packaging into equivalent new packaging using thermoforming.
This creates a closed cycle where used packaging is turned back into new packaging – resource-efficient and sustainable.
Die Mono-Recyclingfolien werden durch thermoformen wieder zu gleichwertigen Verpackungen.
Our clients fill and sell our PET packaging.
The end customer consumes the contents.
We decontaminate the flakes and extrude them into a mono-recycling sheet.
The used packaging is disposed of in our collection bag.
The sorted packaging is subsequently shredded into flakes and washed.
The collection bags are sorted by material type, leveraging infrared technology, optical object recognition, and artificial intelligence.

Why do we focus on PET? Quite simply: plastic is a valuable resource! It offers many advantages and plays a crucial role in reducing packaging waste.
PET is cost-effective to produce and offers an economical solution for packaging.
PET can be easily recycled multiple times, contributing to a sustainable material cycle.
PET has all the necessary approvals for use with food.
Compared to many other packaging materials, PET generates fewer CO₂ emissions, helping to protect the climate.
PET optimally protects food and extends its shelf life, reducing food waste.
PET is extremely lightweight and flexible, making it efficient to shape into various forms.
PAC2PAC is the result of close collaboration among innovative companies committed to environmentally friendly circular solutions.
As a long-standing provider and manufacturer of packaging solutions, particularly PET for food and pharmaceuticals, we feel a responsibility to promote sustainable solutions. Our P2P system demonstrates the technical and economic competitiveness of a closed loop for PET household waste, including compliance with food safety regulations.
Our flagship project not only proves feasibility but also highlights the importance of mixed plastic collection in Switzerland. It aims to kickstart a functioning Swiss plastic packaging circular economy.

Roles/Responsibilities of the Company:
As part of the collaboration project, Sesotec took on the crucial role of sensor-based sorting of food and non-food PET material from the Swiss plastic collection bags.
Roles/Responsibilities of the Company:
Starlinger Viscotec supports the PAC2PAC project with years of expertise in building plastic recycling plants. With the help of our machines, rPET is perfectly cleaned and processed back into film, allowing packaging to be made from packaging again.
Roles/Responsibilities of the Company:
Krones Recycling GmbH provides turnkey solutions for plastic recycling – for PET, PE, PP, and PS.
Roles/Responsibilities of the Company:
"With our major investment in a new extrusion facility, including prior decontamination, we will start producing recycled PET sheets ourselves starting next year. With PAC2PAC, we demonstrate the feasibility of a closed loop for PET packaging from the Swiss collection bags. All in line with our 'Circular Packaging' vision.”
“Why PAC2PAC and PETMAN? Because our hearts are in it, and we live our motto every day: With the highest technological understanding and great passion, we offer flexible development and production expertise for resource-efficient PET sheets.”
“The use of artificial intelligence in sensor-based sorting allows for precise recognition and separation of food and non-food materials. This leads to improved quality of recycled materials and opens up new possibilities for processing material streams that have not been considered before. In this way, valuable raw materials can be reintroduced into the production cycle, reducing the need for new resources and protecting the environment.”
“Recycling is when you make the same packaging from a package again, not a lower-quality product. PAC2PAC proves that this is possible, which is why we are involved.”
“For us, plastic is a valuable resource that can be recycled and reused. Therefore, we were keen to support the project team with our expertise.”
“Plastic collection is absolutely meaningful, as plastic is a valuable resource and no longer belongs in incineration. Our P2P system represents a flagship project for the entire industry. It aims to be pioneering and motivate us all to kickstart the Swiss circular economy for PET packaging.”
“The project was an opportunity for us to demonstrate the outstanding quality of Krones Recycling's washing technology, even for challenging materials.”
